What is a Benchmark & why do we do them?
CrossFit measures progress with benchmarks. There’s no better way of testing whether you are better at something, than to do it again & then again, at a later date. This is especially so in CrossFit. A benchmark is a given workout that you repeat, so you can test, monitor and work towards progressing in your fitness regime. You retest the exact same WOD, log your score and retest it at a later date. All benchmarks, whether this is a Hero WOD, a Girls WOD or a repeat WOD in one of our Testing weeks at CrossFit U1, this is a check in, to measure certain progressions. It is basically an extension on your 1RM (Rep Max) in strength & weightlifting, testing your level and working towards reaching new Personal Records (PR’s). They are designed to test different areas of your fitness and are aimed at measuring your progression, so you can push your boundaries, to another limit, this happens outside your comfort zone, so you can then expand your comfort zone.
In the world of CrossFit, people might ask you something on the lines of ‘What’s your Fran time’, this is a measurable test of your fitness level.
Fran is what we refer to in CrossFit as a ‘Girls’ workout:
Meet the Girls
